We’re delighted to announce that OHM Energy is now a proud member of the leading logistics trade organisation – UKWA. Initially founded by warehouse companies in wartime Britain to discuss the storage and distribution of food, today the UKWA is a powerful voice for over 900 members from warehousing and logistics providers to manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers.
The UK logistics sector reached £393,92 Billion in 2022. According to the IMARC Group, the market is expected to reach £689.2 Billion by 2028 due to rapid expansion of international agreements, an escalating demand for efficient transportation and delivery services and growing investment in warehousing amongst other factors.
According to government figures, the household average energy consumption in the UK ranges between 8.5 to 10 kWh, with an average of 3760 kWh per year. Small businesses have an average energy usage of between 10,000 kWh and 35000 kWh per year, medium-sized businesses use between 60,000 kWh and 115,000 kWh, while large companies use around 155,000 kWh.
However, in warehousing and logistics companies, the average energy usage is 3.2billion kWh/m2 with associated carbon emissions of 698,000 with factories, manufacturing plants and warehouses using the most energy and emitting the most carbon.
The UKWA represents members’ views to government departments about the post-Brexit and pandemic labour shortage, environmental issues and other concerns to influence policy and boost the sector. The UKWA also protects members by offering effective Conditions of Contract and raising industry standards through training and best practice. We are looking forward to supporting members and driving sustainability in the sector by educating and encouraging best practices for achieving net zero targets.
